The Grgich Hills Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is produced from grapes harvested in the estate's Yountville Vineyard, situated at the heart of Napa Valley. This fruit is blended with grapes sourced from the Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards of the estate. This blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, but inspired by the style of a Left Bank Bordeaux, with Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc added for complexity. 2013 was a wonderful vintage at Grgich Hills Estate, characterized by consistent sunshine, a warm spring and great change in day and night time temperatures later in the summer.
At tasting, the Grgich Hills Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 reveals complex flavors, such as black fruit (black currants, blackberries, black cherries and plums), as well as notes of mocha, licorice and clove. In the mouth this wine shows itself to be very well-rounded, with powerful yet silky, smooth tannins. The wine will peak after 10 years in the bottle, but it can also be kept for up to 30 years in the right conditions.
