The
Gevrey-Chambertin appellation covers more than
400 hectares in the Brochon and Gevrey-Chambertin communes. The 26 Gevrey-Chambertin
climats have Premier Cru classification. The vines are located on an escarpment. The
Premiers Crus on the top are grown in calcareous brown soils, and the vines near the Gevrey-Chambertin Village are grown in limestone, scree, red silt, marl and clay soils. The red
Pinot Noir wines from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation have a lovely color ranging from
bright ruby to
garnet. They give off
fruity and
floral aromas in their youth and evolve into
spicy, animal and
vegetable notes as they age. These wines have
power, richness and a beautiful
structure. They can be consumed in their youth for their fruit or they can be cellared for a long period of time.
