Founded by Helen Keplinger and her husband DJ Warner, Keplinger Wines is an emblem of passion and expertise in winemaking. After an inspiring stint in Priorat, Spain, and having tasted her way around the south of France with her husband, Helen was driven to create her own winery, resulting in the establishment of Keplinger Wines in 2006 in California. The couple released their first vintage in 2008, focusing on small production, single-vineyard Rhone varietal wines such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre for the reds and Viognier for the whites. Helen Keplinger, an alumna of the Enology program at UC Davis, has apprenticed and worked alongside some of the most respected names in the industry, including Michel Rolland, Heidi Barrett, and David Abreu. Her extensive experience spans various regions and notable wineries, such as Cellers Melis in Priorat, Kenzo Estate, and Bryant Family Vineyard in Napa Valley. Her time in Spain, working with Grenache, greatly influenced her winemaking philosophy.
Keplinger Wines is renowned for its meticulous approach to vineyard selection and farming. Helen and DJ prioritize hillside and mountain sites in Napa, Sonoma, and the Sierra Foothills, which are meticulously farmed to produce small berries with concentrated flavors. The winery's production is characterized by its attention to detail, small lot fermentations, and a commitment to creating wines that are true expressions of their terroir.
Today, Keplinger Wines produces around 1,600 cases annually, encompassing a diverse portfolio of nine boutique cuvées. Their wines are celebrated for their balance, complexity, and purity, consistently receiving accolades and recognition within the wine community.
