The story of the Shafer Vineyards estate began in 1972 when John Shafer and his wife, Bett, acquired an 84-hectare estate in the Stags Leap District (Napa Valley), of which 12 hectares were planted with vines. A former industrialist, John Shafer carried out extensive work in the vineyard, including the planting of Cabernet Sauvignon vines, with the ambition of making this terroir a fine reference among the greatest Californian wines.

Today, Shafer Vineyards watches over an 80-hectare vineyard that comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah and Petite Sirah grapes.
