Dominique Lafon : Bourgogne Blanc 2016

A Juicy White Burgundy Wine with Citrus and Flower Aromas

In 2008, Burgundy winemaker Dominique Lafon created his namesake label, separate from his family's label (Domaine des Comtes Lafon) with the aim to experiment and produce a new style. He now works around 4.5 hectares of vineyards in the appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay and Beaune, vinifying, aging and bottling his wines at Chateau de Bligny. The wines of Dominique Lafon offer a great tension on the palate, along with a generous minerality, resulting from the high elevation at which the vines are planted. The Bourgogne Blanc 2016 from Domaine Lafon is a 100% Chardonnay wine made from fruit harvested by hand from 2 parcels: the first a 0.60-hectare plot in Meursault lieu-dit "Les Grandes Coutures" and the other a 1.20-hectare property in Puligny-Montrachet lieu-dit "Les Femelottes." The vines are 20-50 years old on average. Following harvest, the fruit is pressed with whole clusters and the must is then cold settled. The wine is racked into barrels, none of which are new, where they mature for 12 months. They are fined and filtered light before bottling.

The Bourgogne Blanc 2016 from Domaine Lafon displays a clear golden color in the glass. On the nose, this white Burgundy reveals notes of citrus and fresh apple, consistent with a juicy palate of succulent lemon and white flowers. A very pleasant thread of acidity follows through to a finish of great length and complexity. A beautifully balanced, lively and voluptuous Chardonnay wine. To be consumed between 2018 and 2020.
