Description
Larry Turley: King of Zinfandel
Turley Wine Cellars has a way with Zinfandel unlike any other producer. Founded by Larry Turley who was previously a co-owner of the successful Frog’s Leap Winery, Turley focuses on revitalizing old vineyards to create gorgeous wines. The winery produces 47 wines from over 50 certified organic vineyards that they have rejuvenated to preserve California’s unique winemaking style.
The Old Vines wine is made from Zinfandel grapes ranging from 41 to 129 years old. The grapes come from a number of sites that are either too small to be made into a vineyard or are a newer vineyard plot to the Turley estate. Turley focuses on older vineyard sites converting them to organic farming and allowing their character to shine through. This wine is a classic example of what a true California Zinfandel can do. It is bursting with red fruit; notes of raspberry, plum and cherries lead to a spicy earth finish. The wine is medium to full body with structured tannins that can stand up to a steak or hearty meat dish.
