Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Silver Oak Cellars 2025 Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens with an inviting mix of pineapple, lychee, and kumquat, layered with citrus blossom, lemongrass, and pea shoots, rounded out by a touch of honeydew melon. This aromatic complexity reflects the wine's origins in both Napa County and Sonoma County, combining riper, more tropical notes with brighter, floral citrus tones.
Palate
On the palate, lemon zest and white peach take center stage, framed by fresh citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Lively, refreshing acidity keeps the wine energetic and precise, while the finish is fresh and pleasantly lingering.
Food and wine pairings
This Sauvignon Blanc is a natural partner for oysters and other shellfish, as well as sushi and sashimi. It also pairs beautifully with grilled white fish, ceviche, fresh goat cheese, herb-flecked salads, and spring vegetable dishes such as asparagus.
Serving and cellaring
The Silver Oak Cellars 2025 Sauvignon Blanc is best served lightly chilled to fully showcase its bright aromatics and lively acidity. As Silver Oak's inaugural white wine, crafted from grapes grown in Napa County and Sonoma County, it is designed for enjoyment in its youth, when its fruit and freshness are at their most expressive.
Other characteristics
This wine reaches 14.2% ABV, in keeping with a bright, aromatic, fresh, and mineral style. It is Silver Oak's first-ever white wine release, sourced from vineyards in Napa County (57%) and Sonoma County (43%), including Calistoga and the Merino Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The 2025 vintage earned a 94-point score from JamesSuckling.com.
Silver Oak Cellars: A Bold New Chapter for Napa and Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc
The Estate
Founded in 1972 in Oakville, Napa Valley, Silver Oak Cellars was created through the partnership of Ray Twomey Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer. Today, the estate remains fully family-owned, led by the Duncan family, and stands as one of California's most recognizable wine brands, historically devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon aged in American oak. Silver Oak farms more than 400 acres of estate vineyards across Napa Valley and Alexander Valley, and is widely respected for its commitment to sustainable, precision viticulture. In 2025, the estate launched its very first white wine.
The Vineyard
The fruit for this Sauvignon Blanc comes from vineyards in Napa County and Sonoma County, with 57% of the fruit sourced from Napa County and 43% from Sonoma County. The grapes come notably from the Calistoga area in northern Napa Valley, known for its warm days, as well as from the Merino Vineyard, located in the Russian River Valley, where maritime influence brings freshness and tension to the grapes.
The Vintage
The 2025 growing season in Napa and Sonoma Counties was marked by moderate temperatures with no notable heat spikes. Winter rains were followed by a dry, cool spring, which encouraged healthy canopy growth and even ripening throughout the season. Harvest began on August 20 in Calistoga and concluded on September 23 at the Merino Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, offering a complementary range of ripeness levels.
Winemaking and aging
The Silver Oak Cellars 2025 Sauvignon Blanc marks the estate's very first release of this varietal. Crafted from grapes grown across the Napa and Sonoma properties, it was made in a deliberately fresh, aromatic, and mineral style, with an emphasis on pure fruit character and vibrant acidity.
Grape Varieties
This wine is composed of 91% Sauvignon Blanc, 8% Sauvignon Gris, and 1% Sémillon.
