The producer
The Meiomi wine brand was developed in 2006 by Joe Wagner, a fifth generation winemaker originally from Napa Valley, who was also at the time working for his father at Caymus Vineyards. The name of the brand means "coastal" in Wappo, which is the language spoken by the Wappo tribe of indigenous people of Northern California. The idea behind Meiomi comes from a single-vineyard label of Pinot Noir wine, which was named after Wagner's grandmother Lorna Belle Glos. In 2020, the company expanded its line of wines with a Cabernet Sauvignon made with grapes sourced from Sonoma, Santa Barbara and Monterey. Today, Meiomi also produces a Chardonnay, a rosé wine and a sparkling wine.
The vineyard
The Meiomi Pinot Noir is made with fruit sourced from various vineyards along the coast of California. Here, the dense fog coming in from the Pacific Ocean, combines with a hilly terrain and rocky soils to produce a microclimate perfect for the cultivation of cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir.
