Description

The Grgich Hills Estate Chardonnay 2014 is a single-varietal Chardonnay wine produced from grapes that are grown in the cool American Canyon and Carneros vineyards, situated in the southern tip of Napa Valley. 2014 was the third exceptional vintage in a row, characterized by near drought conditions. The low temperatures of July and relatively high humidity during the rest of the summer slowed down the accumulation of sugar, which allowed the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness in a gradual way, and obtain a lower percentage of alcohol. The harvest began two weeks earlier than normal. This classic wine is made with no malolactic fermentation, as a way to preserve the natural acidity in the fruit. After fermentation, the wine is left to age for 10 months in French oak barrels.

The Grgich Hills Estate Chardonnay 2014 offers, on the nose, notes of oaky vanilla. Secondary aromas include lemon custard, baked pear and butter cookies, along with fresh grass. The bright acidity of this wine cuts the richness. Subtle mineral notes mingle with almonds and toast to create a truly complex finish. The wine will peak after aging for 7-10 years. We suggest pairing it with fresh seafood or roasted chicken.
