Description

IX Estate Syrah: Aromatic, Complex and Distinctive

The Colgin Estate IX Syrah is considered one of the most unique Syrahs being made in California today. It is characterized and inspired by the Old World wines of the Northern Rhône. Colgin’s IX Estate is planted at the top of Pritchard Hill at an altitude stretching from 1,150 to 1,350 feet above sea level. It faces eastward, an exposure that protects the vines against the hottest afternoon sun and preserves flavor intensity and aromatics. This particular wine is vinified from four separate one acre parcels within the IX Estate. All four plots have a different clone and rootstock combination along with the distinctive soils in each. These lots are all fermented separately in French oak barrels and aged for 19 months. The wine has a nuanced, savory palate with notes cured meat, pepper and blackberry, while it's big texture and mouthwatering smooth tannins round out this expressive palate.
