Description
The Ripe, Beautifully Textured Fruit of the Anthill Farms Demuth Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015
The Demuth Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 from Anthill Farms is a red wine produced from 100% Pinot Noir. The fruit is sourced from the Demuth Vineyard, located at an elevation of 1400-1600 feet above sea level, one mile up the road from Abbey-Harris vineyard. Here, the terroir offers a mixture of sandy soils and pink quartz, along with organic matter and large shale outcroppings, though it is slightly less rocky that Abbey-Harris. Anthill Farms works with two different blocks of this vineyard: terraced rows planted with the Wadenswil clone of Pinot Noir and a Pommard clone block, which sits on a shelf lower down on the slope. The cool temperatures and strong afternoon winds in this region help create great depth and elegance in the fruit, which are grown on vines aged 30 year, on average. The vineyard is farmed by Anthony Filberti of Anthill Farms and Knez Winery.
The Anthill Farms Demuth Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 offers a brisk and tangy nose, exuding aromas of redcurrant, carnation petals and cedar wood. On the palate, this Californian Pinot Noir is very ripe, with beautifully textured fruit and a cool, crisp, refreshing quality. The tannins are tight and grippy, framing an elegant structure, built on a core of bright, lively acidity. A generous, long finish follows with woodsy, slightly earthy flavors coming through at the end. This wine will age exquisitely in the bottle until 2022-2026 or beyond.
