Description

A Carneros Pinot Noir with Red Fruity and Earthy Touches

Etude was founded almost three decades ago on the philosophy that winemaking begins in the vineyard and that attention to detail when growing grapes can most significantly affect the varietal expression and finesse of the finished product. The estate specializes in Pinot Noir grown on rocky volcanic soils. The Etude Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2015 is a fantastic reflection of the winery's estate vineyard, Grace Benoist Ranch, located in the northwest corner of the Los Carneros AVA. The vines are densely planted in well-drained, rocky soils with volcanic origin and managed according to principles of sustainable agriculture. After harvest, the fruit undergoes cold maceration and fermentation in open-top containers with extended time on the skins. They are matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, of which 25% is new. This minimal use of new oak on this 100% Pinot Noir is meant to allow the fruit to shine through, expressing both the characteristics of the varietal and of the fruit's terroir of origin.

The Etude Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2015 displays a medium ruby-purple color in the glass. On the nose, this Carneros Pinot Noir reveals a gorgeous bouquet, one which combines cranberries, red currants and cherries with herbaceous, savory notes and earthy hints of forest floor. Plenty of texture comes forth in the mouth, revealing a full-bodied and well-rounded wine with complex earthy flavors dominating the palate. The tannins are chewy, contributing an interesting layer to the body. This wine will age in the bottle beautifully for 5 years or more.
