Description
A bold yet approachable Cabernet Sauvignon from California
The producer
It was in 2001 that a man from New York by the name of Joseph Carr quit his corporate job to pursue his dream: to start his very own wine brand in California. Josh Cellars was born in 2005 and named after Joseph's father, Josh. The first bottles of Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon were sold out of the back of Joseph's truck, with proceeds donated to a variety of firefighter, military and veteran groups. A few years later, Joseph Carr added a Chardonnay and eventually he expanded his range to include a Merlot, a Pinot Noir, a Red Blend, a Sauvignon Blanc and a Rosé as well. In 2019, the brand introduced the Josh Cellars Reserve, a selection of fine wines made from premium vineyards in the North Coast and Paso Robles of California. In 2021, Wine Enthusiast magazine named Josh Cellars "Winery of the Year".
The vineyard
The fruit used in the Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from vineyards around California, including the Mendocino, Napa Valley and Sonoma AVA's.
The wine
The flagship wine and the very first to be released by the winery, the Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is made in a bold yet approachable style, in honor of Joseph Carr's father, Josh. This "sure bet" wine is particularly well known as an excellent value for price.
The blend
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
The tasting
Color
The Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a ruby red color in the glass.
Nose
On the nose, this California Cabernet exudes ripe aromas of black fruit (plums, dark cherries and black currants), along with hints of smoke, cocoa and well-worn leather.
Palate
The palate is quite balanced, with a full-bodied, round and juicy mouthfeel, a firm structure and velvety smooth tannins. The finish lingers long, offering flavors of plum jam, along with touches of licorice, vanilla and toasted oak.
Food and wine pairing
The Josh Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon will pair nicely with well-seasoned beef dishes, like a flank steak straight off the grill and served with chimichurri sauce, as well as a juicy vegetable lasagna. This Californian red wine will also go nicely with chocolate desserts.
