Description
A Pomerol with Rich Red and Black Fruit Flavours from a Superb Vintage
Originally named "Trop Ennui" after its challenging Pomerol terroir, Chateau Trotanoy was acquired by the Moueix family in 1953 and has in recent decades become one of the appellation's top references. The 7.2-hectare (17.8-acre) vineyard is planted with around 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc in gravel and clay soils in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. These vineyards are cultivated using sustainable methods and the soil is tilled in four different ways, with vine growth management adapted to the specific climatic conditions of each vintage. Following a severe pruning in winter, the team also carries out crop-thinning, de-leafing and stripping away of some clusters in order to reduce yield and help the fruit to fully ripen before harvest. The grapes are sorted manually in the vineyard and optically at the winery, then vinified in thermoregulated concrete vats with a very gentle maceration and extraction. The wines mature for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, of which around 50% are new.The Chateau Trotanoy 2016 is a blend of 95% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc, and is shaping up to be one of the most beautiful wines of Pomerol in this vintage. On the nose, this Pomerol wine slowly unfurls notes of black raspberries, blackberries, black truffle and graphite, while lush black and red fruit dominate the palate. A powerful and structured wine, with a firm, linear tannic structure and invigorating acidity as well as tension expressed on the very persistent finish. Drink 2026-2070.
