The elegance and vivacity of a great vintage champagne
The property
Nicknamed "Boll" by the people of Champagne or "Bolly" by the English, the timeless and mythical Bollinger Champagne House is part of the small circle of great Champagne houses. The style of Bollinger champagne is defined through the exemplary precision brought to each moment of its elaboration. Respect for traditions, hand riddling of bottles, corking of magnum reserve bottles, the last resident cooper in the region, this taste for excellence symbolizes the entire culture of Bollinger champagne since its creation in 1829 in Aÿ. More than an art, it's a heritage.
The vineyard
Bollinger owes its uniqueness to its 174 hectares spread over seven main Champagne vineyards, 85% of which are Grands and Premiers crus, allowing the house to be one of the few to produce its own grapes for its blends. The signature grape variety of the house, Pinot Noir, represents 60% of the vineyard's planting.
The wine
La Côte aux Enfants is a Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs champagne from Aÿ, coming from the single eponymous plot. This 4-hectare plot, all in one piece, was assembled (through successive acquisitions between 1926 and 1934) by Jacques Bollinger. The Bollinger House pays tribute to his visionary spirit by unveiling this first single-plot Brut cuvée.
The vintage
A contrasting year, 2013 is marked by unstable weather. A rainy spring gives way to a hot and historically sunny summer in Champagne. Despite these conditions, the harvest is of great quality.
Vinification and aging
This vintage champagne 2013 has benefited from a maturation time in the cellar, under cork, more than twice the rules of the appellation.
