Description
Paolo Bea is an artisanal producer from Montefalco, Umbria, with wine making roots going back as early as 1500. Harvesting from only 5 hectares of vineyards, they organically cultivate Sagrantino, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. All the grapes are harvested manually and bottled without fining or filtration. The Paolo Bea Vigneto Pipparello Riserva 2008 is composed of Sangiovese 60%, Montepulciano 25% and Sagrantino15%, harvested from the Pipparello vineyard in Montefalco at 1300 feet above sea level with vines a minimum of 20 years old. Undergoing a long and unusual maceration of 40 days, the wine spends one year in stainless steel and an additional year in large oak barrel. The Paolo Bea Vigneto Pipparello Riserva 2008 offers aromas of blackberry, black pepper and licorice, which carry through to a structured palate that offers loads of cherry, blackcurrant, and earth. A lovely red to be enjoyed with roasted meats and mature cheeses.
