Jean-Louis Tribouley : Les Bacs 2015

A Biodynamic Grenache-Carignan Blend with Black Fruit and Earthy Aromas

Jean-Louis Tribouley established his namesake estate in 2002 upon 10.5 hectares covered in vines, of which 4 hectares Carignan, 3 hectares Grenache, 2 hectares Syrah and 1.2 hectares Macabeu. The Les Bacs 2015 was produced in the Cotes Catalanes IGP appellation of Roussillon from vines with an average age of 60 years. The vines, which stretch their roots deep into granitic soils, are cultivated by means of biodynamic viticulture. This fruit is sorted by hand and destemmed, then fermented in stainless steel vats with very few punch-downs and no pumping over. Nothing is added during fermentation and the wine is unfined and unfiltered before bottling. The 2015 vintage blends 80% Grenache with 20% Carignan.

The biodynamic Les Bacs 2015 by Jean Louis Tribouley is intensely expressive and nuanced on the nose, pouring forth layers of blackcurrant, black raspberry and ripe cherry aromas, as well as spring flowers like violets and rose. There is also an omnipresent earthy character - touches of garrigue, mushroom and damp soil. On the palate, this wine is truly captivating, showing a medium-to-full body, plenty of texture and perfect balance. A touch of spice adds a pleasant ending to the long, persistent finish.
