Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Telmont Vinothèque Blanc de Blancs 2006
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a pale yellow robe with golden highlights, a hue consistent with its long cellar aging before disgorgement.
Nose
The nose opens on ripe peach and a touch of white tobacco, before revealing notes of vanilla and toasted toffee.
Palate
The palate is lively and expressive, driven by exotic fruit such as pineapple and mango, joined by pear and a bright acidity, with a finish that lingers on lychee.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Champagne pairs beautifully with aged, hard cheeses, and is particularly recommended alongside a well-matured parmesan, whose savory depth echoes the wine's toasted and fruit-driven character.
Serving and Cellaring
The Telmont Vinothèque Blanc de Blancs 2006 is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of around 10°C, which allows its aromatic complexity to fully express itself.
Other Characteristics
This Champagne shows a dosage of 5.9 grams per liter and an alcohol content of 12% ABV. It is vinified without malolactic fermentation, preserving a crisp, lively acidity throughout.
A Telmont Blanc de Blancs Marked by Côte des Blancs Precision and Long Cellar Aging
The Estate
Champagne Telmont was founded in 1912 in Damery, in the Marne Valley, and has remained a family-run house across four generations. Since 2020, the estate has been majority-owned by the Rémy Cointreau group, under the presidency of Ludovic du Plessis, while chef de caves Bertrand Lhôpital, heir to the founding family, continues to oversee winemaking. Telmont stands out for its environmental commitment, notably as the first Champagne house certified Regenerative Organic Certified®.
The Vineyard
This Champagne draws its chardonnay grapes primarily from the Côte des Blancs, with 73% sourced from the villages of Avize and Chouilly, complemented by 27% from Damery in the Marne Valley. These Côte des Blancs crus are known for their chalky soils, well suited to producing fine, tense chardonnays with strong aging potential, while the Damery fruit lends a riper, more generous dimension to the blend.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the Vinothèque Blanc de Blancs 2006 were pressed using only the first press, or cuvée, and vinified in stainless steel tanks without malolactic fermentation, preserving natural acidity and tension. The wine was bottled for its second fermentation in July 2007, then aged for fourteen years in underground cellars, with riddling performed by hand, before being disgorged in 2021.
Grape Variety
This Champagne is composed entirely of chardonnay, at 100%.
