Moët & Chandon unveils an exceptional multi-vintage champagne on the occasion of its 280th anniversary
The property
The Moët & Chandon Champagne House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made it a reference among European courts. A few years later his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, developed the aura of the House internationally. Jean-Rémy Moët notably created the House's emblematic cuvée, the Moët Imperial, in honor of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate several times and is said to have invented the gesture of sabering Moët & Chandon champagne bottles to celebrate a victory with his troops. Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the House produces, from a rigorous selection of Champagne terroirs, singular cuvées recognized beyond borders.
The wine
On the occasion of its 280th anniversary, the Moët & Chandon House unveils Collection Impériale Création N°1. Reflecting 20 years of research, this "high oenology" cuvée reveals the greatness of seven exceptional vintages: 2013, 2012, 2010, 2008, 2006, 2004 and 2000. Combining the meticulous art of selection, aging and blending, this prestigious champagne, a non-dosed Brut Nature, stands out for its eminently complex expression. In order to achieve such a level of excellence, the cellar master Benoît Gouez aged each vintage to intrinsically reveal its personality.
The cuvée "Creation N° 1", based on 2013, inaugurates the new Imperial Collection of Moët & Chandon. This first edition also celebrates the future: it launches the countdown to the 300th anniversary of Moët & Chandon, an event that will be crossed in 2043. Thus, following the release of Creation N° 1, Moët & Chandon plans to unveil a new cuvée every two years, progressively enriching the Imperial Collection with each new edition.
Vinification and aging
This champagne brings together 7 remarkable vintages, which owe their singularity to their aging. Thus, some were aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit (2013), others were vinified in oak barrels to underline the power (2012, 2010, 2008, 2006 and 2000), finally some were aged on lees in bottle to develop subtle toasted nuances (2004).
