Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Louis Roederer Collection 247

Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense and generous, the nose reveals sun-kissed yellow fruit aromas such as mirabelle plum, accompanied by orchard fruit notes like Williams pear, contributed by the Meunier and Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay, meanwhile, expresses fragrances of pollen, delicate white flowers and vanilla. With aeration, the bouquet evolves towards notes of chocolatey spices, roasting and cooked apples.

Palate

The palate is fleshy and fresh, offering a creamy, full-bodied texture carried by juicy fruit. The whole delivers an indulgent sensation, enhanced by a slight tannic, bitter edge that brings energy. The finish stretches on with concentration, revealing a smooth, chalky, saline and mouth-watering texture.

Food and Wine Pairing

This champagne pairs perfectly with refined aperitifs, delicate fish and shellfish, highlighting its aromatic balance and versatility.

Serving and Cellaring

The Collection 247 is best enjoyed at a temperature of between 8 and 10°C to fully reveal its aromatic complexity.

A precise and generous champagne from Louis Roederer

The Estate

Founded in 1776 in Reims under the name Dubois Père & Fils, the house took the name Louis Roederer in 1833. Owned by the Rouzaud family since 1975, it is now run by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation. The vineyard spans 245 hectares located exclusively within the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus of Champagne. Louis Roederer stands out for its unique model of total vertical integration and is the largest organic vineyard estate in Champagne, with 135 certified hectares.

The Vineyard

The Collection 247 is crafted from grapes sourced from three complementary Champagne terroirs: one third from "La Rivière", one third from "La Montagne" and one third from "La Côte". The grapes come from the estate's own vines, supplemented by a carefully selected group of "Cœur de Terroir" grower partners.

The Blend

Collection 247 represents the House's 247th blend. The cuvée is composed of 68% wines from the 2022 harvest, complemented by 27% wines from the perpetual reserve encompassing the 2012 to 2021 vintages, and 5% reserve wines aged in wood from the 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 vintages. The 2022 vintage, harvested between 29 August and 13 September, is characterised by a continental, sun-drenched, dry and generous influence, in contrast to the oceanic 2021 vintage.

Winemaking and Ageing

This Collection 247 benefits from a vinification process in which 23% of the wines are aged in wood. Malolactic fermentation is carried out on 23% of the blend, helping to preserve freshness while adding roundness. This approach gives the champagne its characteristic complexity and balance. This champagne has a dosage of 7 g/L, lending it a lovely freshness while preserving its indulgent character.
