Description

The finesse and elegance of a Cristal Rosé by Louis Roederer

The property

Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today led by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage, the Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines around the world thanks to cuvées crafted like a work of art.

The vineyard

With nearly 241 hectares of vineyards, the Louis Roederer House draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed only of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the vineyard of the Louis Roederer House is divided into 410 plots that reflect all the diversity of the soils of the Champagne.

The wine

The iconic cuvée of the house, created for the first time in 1876 for the Tsar of Russia, Cristal is made from 45 exceptional plots, spread over 7 Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs.

The vintage

The 2014 vintage is comparable to a three-step climatic waltz, with sharp, strong and cutting contrasts. A dry spring followed by a cool summer akin to autumn finally gave way to a warm and dry September. The excellence of the vintage comes from the combination of the soils and the know-how of the winegrowers. The chalky soils, effectively draining and located in the middle-lower part of the slopes, played a crucial role in eliminating excess water and controlling the vigor of the vines. This 2014 vintage champagne stands out for its finesse and aromatic expression.

Vinification and aging

The Louis Roederer House has developed a unique technique in the making of its rosé champagnes, the result of many years of experimentation. The "infusion" of chardonnay juice in a maceration of pinot noirs thus allows to integrate the whole while obtaining juicy and ripe wines while preserving a great freshness. The champagne does not undergo malolactic fermentation. 19% of the wines are vinified in wood.

Characteristics and tasting advice for the 2014 Cristal Rosé from the Louis Roederer House

Tasting

Color
The color is of an elegant pink with coppery reflections highlighting the finesse of the bubble cord.

Nose
Complex and delicate, the bouquet invites you to take the time to discover all its aromas. Notes of red forest fruits appear first before giving way to sweet spices and smoky notes.

Palate
Concentrated and generous, the palate reveals intense aromas of red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry then it reveals an intense and marked freshness. This sensation of concentration creates a plethora of flavors oscillating between a delicious iodized character, a subtle smoky expression and a sublime acidity.
