A Vintage Blanc de Blancs Champagne of Rare Complexity and Precision
The Estate
Located in the terroir of the Côte des Blancs, the House of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier has been cultivating vines for more than 8 generations. Since 1988, Pierre Larmandier has headed the 18-hectare family estate with the ambition of producing exceptional cuvées that authentically express the purity of Champagne's terroirs.
Averaging 35 years of age, the vines have been farmed biodynamically for over 20 years, with total respect for the terroir. Abandoning chemical products, plowing the soil, using indigenous yeasts, and long lees aging in barrels and foudres are among the defining choices that give Larmandier-Bernier's cuvées a rare and singular minerality and expression of terroir.
The Wine
Larmandier-Bernier's Vieille Vigne du Levant Grand Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is crafted from an exceptional terroir in Champagne, located in Cramant with a southeast exposure. This eastern exposure, facing the sunrise, favors a rich aromatic palette and powerful grapes. Some of these old vines are over 80 years old, benefiting from deep root systems and a diversity of old vine stock—ideal conditions for giving this Champagne its singular complexity.
Winemaking and Aging
Gentle pressing followed by settling and barreling. Natural alcoholic fermentation, then malolactic fermentation in barrels and foudres, along with the initial lees aging period of 11 months. Following bottling, without blending with other years since this is a vintage cuvée, an additional aging period of at least 7 to 8 years takes place in the bottle within the cool cellars of the house. Disgorgement takes place 12 months before release. The dosage of this Extra Brut Champagne is 2 g/liter.
Blend
This 2014 vintage Champagne is 100% Chardonnay.
