A Vintage Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne, Vibrant and Refined
The Estate
The House of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier has been cultivating vines for 8 generations. Since 1988, Pierre Larmandier has headed the 18-hectare family estate with the ambition of producing exceptional cuvées that authentically express the purity and richness of prestigious Grands Crus such as Cramant, Avize, and Oger, as well as the Premier Cru of Vertus.
The Vineyard
Located in the Côte des Blancs, an emblematic Champagne terroir, the estate's vineyards, averaging 35 years of age, have been cultivated biodynamically for over 20 years, in total respect of the terroir. The abandonment of chemical products, ploughing, indigenous yeasts, and extended aging on lees in barrels and large casks are all decisive choices that give Larmandier-Bernier's cuvées a rare and singular minerality and expression of terroir.
The Wine
The Les Chemins d'Avize collection from Larmandier-Bernier completes the range of single-vineyard champagnes created by Pierre and Sophie. This collection complements the Vieille Vigne de Cramant range launched in 1988, as well as the Terre de Vertus range created in 1995 and the Rosé de Saignée range in 1999. In 2009, Pierre and Sophie Larmandier acquired a small press. They then singled out 2 plots at the heart of the village of Avize, in the "Chemin du Plivot" and "Chemin de Flavigny" lieux-dits. Distinctive in character, this cuvée reflects the unique nature of the Avize terroir and its old Chardonnay vines, averaging 50 years of age.
Winemaking and Aging
After a gentle pressing of the grapes, the juices are settled before being transferred into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels and large casks. The wine is aged for one year on lees, followed by 5 years of aging on staves. Manual disgorgement takes place 6 months before release. The dosage of this Extra Brut Champagne is 2g/l.
Blend
This 2016 vintage Champagne is 100% Chardonnay.
