A Non Dosé Blanc de Blancs Champagne Marked by Elegance and Minerality
The Estate
Located in the terroir of the Côte des Blancs, the House of Champagne Larmandier-Bernier has been cultivating vines for over 8 generations. Since 1988, Pierre Larmandier has headed the 18-hectare family estate with the ambition of producing exceptional cuvées that authentically express the purity of Champagne's terroirs.
Averaging 35 years of age, the vines have been farmed biodynamically for over 20 years, with total respect for the terroir. The abandonment of chemical products, plowing, indigenous yeasts, and long aging on lees in barrels and large oak casks are all key choices that give Larmandier-Bernier's cuvées a rare and distinctive minerality and expression of terroir.
The Vineyard
This Terre de Vertus Premier Cru Non-Dosé Blanc de Blancs cuvée comes from the Les Barillers plot, located midway up the slope in Vertus, a great terroir of Champagne.
The Wine
It was in 1995, while tasting the still wines from various plots facing southeast and located midway up the slope in Vertus, that Pierre and Sophie Larmandier decided to create a new cuvée. Terre de Vertus Premier Cru Non-Dosé Blanc de Blancs thus reveals the noble expression of chardonnay from a single year and a single terroir (the Les Barillers plot). This Brut Nature champagne is non dosé to fully express the purity and minerality of its terroir.
Winemaking and Aging
Gentle pressing followed by settling and barreling. Natural alcoholic fermentation, then malolactic fermentation in barrels and large oak casks, as well as the initial aging on lees for one year before bottling. A further aging period of at least 5 years then takes place in the cool cellars of the house. This Blanc de Blancs champagne is disgorged 6 months before release.
Grape Variety
This 2017 vintage champagne is 100% chardonnay.
