Decanter

Fermented and aged for 12 months in small barrels from the Argonne forest, some young but not new, this pours bronze and notably open-stanced, with baked apple, dried pear and bay leaf. The Pinot expression of raspberry tart and dried apricot richness is insistent, though, even if it has a little wild side. More oxygen influence than most in this tasting, but a style that will certainly find fans. Pinot Noir from Aÿ, in the Vallée de la Marne.

Antonio Galloni

The NV Hommage au Pinot Noir is a blend from Aÿ and five villages in its periphery, based on 2020. This is an especially airy, aromatic Pinot Noir-based Champagne. The Hommage sees an additional six to nine months in tank after aging in oak. Late bottling yields a particularly subtle Champagne, one that emphasizes nuance over power. Disgorged: March 26, 2024

La RVF

A delicately stained colour; the nose shows lovely maturity with notes of malt, cereals, bread crumb, dried fruit and almond. Pinot brings its kirsch-like, stone-cherry fruit profile. The nose is complex. The palate is broad and powerful, with fine substance and impressive scope. This is a food wine that showcases Pinot Noir.

Description

An exceptional champagne paying tribute to the Aÿ terroir in Champagne

The estate
The Henri Giraud House continues a family heritage that began in 1625 in Aÿ, making this house one of the oldest in Champagne still run by its founding family. Led by Emmanuelle Giraud, representing the 13th generation of the Giraud-Hémart family, the House is renowned for its aging in Argonne oak barrels, a tradition reinstated by Claude Giraud in 1990.

The vineyard
This Hommage cuvée is crafted exclusively from grapes sourced from the prestigious Aÿ Grand Cru terroir, renowned for its exceptional ability to showcase the nobility of Pinot Noir. This outstanding Champagne terroir benefits from exposure and soils particularly well-suited to the expression of this emblematic grape variety.

Winemaking and aging
Vinification in oak barrels for 7 months followed by 3 months of maturation in enamelled steel tanks. An additional minimum aging of 3 months on lees is carried out before release.

Grape variety
Hommage d'Henri Giraud is made exclusively from Pinot Noir (100%).
