Color

This wine shows a deep ruby red color, typical of the great pinot noirs grown on the clay-and-limestone slopes of Chambolle-Musigny.

Nose

The nose opens with a pure and harmonious character, built around black cherry and cassis, joined by raspberry and red currant. Violet notes bring a floral lift, while exotic spice, a touch of vanilla bean and hints of raw cocoa add further layers of complexity. With aeration, the floral dimension becomes even more pronounced, and the oak remains well integrated throughout.

Palate

The palate is full, deep and multidimensional, with an immensely concentrated core carried by powdery, fine-grained tannins. A delicate thread of acidity brings freshness and a light spiciness, leading into a vivid, mineral finish of remarkable persistence.

The Estate

Louis Jadot is a Burgundy estate founded in 1859 in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Owned since 1985 by the Kopf family, it is today led by president Thomas Seiter and general manager Thibault Gagey, with Frédéric Barnier as technical director. The house cultivates around 200 hectares of vines across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, complemented by a vineyard in Oregon. Louis Jadot is recognized for its parcel-by-parcel approach and its in-house cooperage.

The Vineyard

The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comes from a tiny plot of roughly 0.27 hectare owned by Louis Jadot on the Chambolle-Musigny side of the appellation, on steep slopes overlooking the village. The soil here is clay-and-silica based, resting on limestone and white marl subsoil, with a notably low calcium content that gives the wine a particularly robust character while preserving great elegance.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2020 are fermented in vats for close to a month, allowing for slow and thorough extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months prior to bottling, a long maturation that supports its structure and encourages the gradual integration of the oak.
