Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 Louis Jadot
Tasting
Color
As is typical for a young Montrachet Grand Cru, this wine is expected to show a deep, vivid straw-yellow color with golden highlights, with a bright, clear appearance that hints at the wine's richness and the density built through extended barrel aging.
Nose
The nose opens on ripe peach and pear, layered with citrus and orange zest, beeswax, spice, and toasted bread notes that speak to a well-integrated oak influence. A touch of light reduction gives way to real intensity, revealing lemony fruit, flinty minerality, subtle earthy nuances, and a surprising hint of wild mint that brings freshness to the aromatic profile.
Palate
Full-bodied, ample, and multidimensional, the palate is textural and enveloping, with a layered mid-palate carried by a tangy, lively acidity. The finish is expansive and distinctly saline, giving the wine remarkable length while keeping its richness in check.
Food and wine pairings
This Montrachet Grand Cru calls for refined, generous dishes. It pairs beautifully with noble fish such as turbot or sole in a buttery or creamy sauce, as well as with shellfish like lobster or langoustine served with a light, creamy preparation. It is equally at home with white meats or truffled poultry served with a creamy mushroom sauce, where its richness and saline finish find a natural echo.
Serving and cellaring
Thanks to its full, layered structure and lively acidity, the Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 Louis Jadot shows real aging potential, built on an elevage of 18 to 20 months in oak barrels. No official drinking window has been communicated for this cuvée.
A Rich, Multidimensional Chardonnay from Chassagne-Montrachet
The Estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy's leading négociant-producers, today owned by the American Kopf family and led by President Thomas Seiter alongside Managing Director Thibault Gagey, with Frédéric Barnier overseeing winemaking. The estate farms roughly 210 hectares across Burgundy, from Chablis to Beaujolais, and operates its own cooperage, Cadus, giving it rare control over its barrel aging program.
The Vineyard
This Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a parcel located in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, on the renowned limestone hillside shared with Puligny-Montrachet, considered one of the world's greatest sites for chardonnay. The vines benefit from strictly limited yields and are hand-harvested, in line with the estate's broader commitment to chemical-free, increasingly organic viticulture, formalized through certification obtained on its own vineyards in 2024.
Winemaking and aging
The Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 is vinified with close attention to the fruit and the site, following Maison Louis Jadot's parcel-by-parcel approach. The wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels sourced from the estate's own cooperage, Cadus, with new wood used sparingly so that the oak supports rather than dominates the wine's texture and aromatic complexity.
Grape Varieties
100 % chardonnay.
