Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2023 from Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Color
The Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2023 Joseph Drouhin reveals a vivid, brilliant color, a deep yet never opaque red, typical of Pinot Noir grown on the limestone soils of the Côte de Nuits.
Nose
The nose is complex and precise, dominated by notes of violet and black cherry, underpinned by hints of damp earth. As the wine evolves, nuances of truffle and a subtle touch of game may enrich this refined bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, this wine captivates with a texture reminiscent of lace and silk. The tannins, noble and fine, offer a lovely grip while remaining enveloping. The balance between freshness and velvety smoothness comes fully into its own, leading to a long, persistent finish with notes of stone fruit and candied fruit.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2023 is an ideal match for poultry and delicate meats, particularly duck, whose richness finds a beautiful echo in the wine's structure. It also pairs very well with mushroom dishes, such as a risotto or pan-fried porcini, as well as with certain soft-rind cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2023 is served at a temperature of around 16°C. Light decanting may be considered to help the bouquet open up and the tannins soften.

The Estate
Founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, the house of Joseph Drouhin has grown over the generations to become one of the great names of Burgundy. Now led by the family's fourth generation, with Frédéric, Véronique, Philippe and Laurent Drouhin at its helm, the house farms an estate of 100 hectares spread across the whole of the Burgundy wine region. True to its environmental commitments, it farms its entire vineyard organically and biodynamically.
The Vineyard
The Chambolle-Musigny vineyard rests on complex limestone soils dating from the Secondary era, particularly well suited to the expression of Pinot Noir. For its Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru, the house of Joseph Drouhin blends several small parcels of premiers crus, gently sloping to the east, forming what it calls a "cuvée ronde", harvested and vinified as a single coherent entity.
The Vintage
2023 ranks among the warmest years ever recorded in Burgundy, even surpassing the 2022 vintage. This climatic generosity resulted in a harvest that was abundant in both quantity and quality, allowing the grapes to reach fine ripeness.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2023 combines a variable proportion of whole clusters, between 20% and 50% depending on the vintage, with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation and maceration take place over two to three weeks in small open vats, punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs. After vertical pressing, the wine is aged for fourteen to eighteen months in French oak barrels, of which around a quarter are new.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
