Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2023 from Domaine Humbert Frères
Tasting notes
Appearance
This red wine reveals a deep, rich ruby colour, enhanced by delicate violet hues in its youth.
Nose
Wonderfully pure, the aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely fruity intensity blending black cherry and raspberry with subtle floral notes of violet. The whole is harmoniously rounded out by fine woody and spicy nuances.
Palate
The palate reveals a remarkable balance between concentrated substance and lovely freshness. Carried by finely grained tannins and a silky texture, the palate unfolds a dense core of fruit. The tasting experience lingers on a long, persistent finish, marked by fruity and spicy aromas along with a delicate minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This wine will pair wonderfully with full-bodied meats such as prime rib, braised lamb or feathered and furred game. It will also complement flavourful duck-based dishes or white meats served with wild mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, decanting it briefly while young. This age-worthy wine can be cellared until around 2038.
The finesse and depth of a Premier Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin
The estate
Founded in 1989 by brothers Frédéric and Emmanuel, Domaine Humbert Frères is a seven-hectare family estate located at the heart of Burgundy, within the prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Representing the fourth generation, Emmanuel Humbert now runs the estate alongside his nephew, Pierre Yves Humbert. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), this discreet estate stands out for its exceptional heritage of very old vines and its respectful approach to terroir, giving rise to wines of remarkable depth.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the "Poissenot" climat, an outstanding terroir ideally positioned on the upper slopes of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines, often more than fifty years old, thrive on the clay-limestone soils typical of the region. This terroir benefits from excellent drainage and a favourable exposure, encouraging slow, steady ripening of the berries while preserving lovely freshness.
The vintage
2023 enjoyed particularly favourable weather conditions in Burgundy. This favourable climate allowed the growing cycle to unfold optimally, giving the berries excellent phenolic ripeness while retaining the natural freshness essential to the future balance of the juices.
Winemaking and aging
Crafted in strict adherence to local traditions, this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2023 is made from hand-harvested grapes. The grapes are entirely de-stemmed before undergoing long macerations, punctuated by regular punching down and pumping over for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.
