Description
2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village from Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy: Tasting Notes and Characteristics
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens on dark yet pure fruit, lifted by a delicate floral touch, alongside the rich, generous fruit aromas typical of the 2022 vintage.
Palate
The palate is direct on the attack and gradually broadens, carried by fresh fruit and very fine, almost grainless tannins that bring a slightly drying sensation. The wine closes on a long, soft finish, confirming a structured yet balanced profile.
Food and wine pairings
This Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2022 pairs nicely with white meats and poultry, as well as feathered game. It also works well with creamy soups and with roasted or grilled meats, making it a versatile companion for a classic meal.
Serving and cellaring
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is best enjoyed in a Bordeaux-style glass to fully reveal its aromatic profile. This wine may be cellared until 2037 approximately.
Other characteristics
This wine shows an alcohol content of 12.5%.
A Structured, Fruit-Driven Gevrey-Chambertin from Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy
The Estate
Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy took its current name in 1986, when Gérard Harmand expanded the family vineyard by acquiring the plots of Domaine Vachet-Rousseau, bringing the property to its present size. Located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, the estate is today run by Philippe Harmand, the fifth generation of the family. It farms about 9 hectares planted entirely with pinot noir, exclusively within the Gevrey-Chambertin commune, and holds the monopole on the La Bossière premier cru.
The Vineyard
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a blend of about ten parcels, located both on the plain and within the village of Gevrey-Chambertin itself. The vines are tended following traditional methods, with no chemical weedkillers or fertilizers, regular ploughing and hoeing to encourage deep rooting, and a reasoned approach to pest control that excludes insecticides and acaricides.
The Vintage
According to Philippe Harmand, 2022 proved to be a particularly rich vintage for the estate. The wines were bottled between February and April 2024.
Winemaking and aging
The Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2022 is aged for 12 to 16 months in oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak ranging from 30 to 50% depending on the quality of the vintage.
Grape Varieties
100% pinot noir.
