A Vosne-Romanée Village Wine Shaped by the Minimal-Intervention Approach of Domaine Prieuré Roch
The Estate
Domaine Prieuré Roch was founded in 1988 in Prémeaux-Prissey, in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, by Henry-Frédéric Roch, who also served as co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The estate today spans around twenty hectares across villages including Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Ladoix, and Savigny-lès-Beaune. It holds notable monopoles such as Clos des Corvées and Clos des Varoilles, and follows a natural approach based on organic farming, biodynamic principles, and whole-cluster vinification without added sulfites. Since Roch's passing, the estate has been led by Yannick Champ and his team, carrying on the philosophy established in 1988.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Les Hautes-Maizières lieu-dit, a 0.62-hectare plot located in the northern part of Vosne-Romanée, bordering the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot and lying just below the Les Suchots premier cru. The vines, roughly 45 years old, grow on limestone and clay soils typical of this part of the appellation. As throughout the estate, the plot is farmed organically and biodynamically, without synthetic inputs, to preserve the natural balance of the soil.
Winemaking and aging
The Vosne-Romanée Village "Les Hautes-Maizières" 2019 is vinified using whole clusters, in keeping with the estate's long-standing practice, and without any added sulfites during the winemaking process. This minimal-intervention approach, inherited from traditional Burgundian methods, aims to preserve the purity and sensuality of the fruit while allowing the terroir to express itself with precision.
Grape Varieties
This wine is produced from 100% pinot noir, the signature grape variety of Vosne-Romanée and the Côte de Nuits.
