Description
Tasting and Serving Notes for the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges from Domaine Prieuré Roch
Tasting
Color
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges displays a deep ruby color with garnet highlights, reflecting the concentration brought by old vines and a rigorous selection of grapes.
Nose
The nose opens on ripe cherry and dark berry aromas, layered with delicate spice notes such as cinnamon and fine floral touches reminiscent of violet, giving the wine an elegant and inviting bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, this Nuits-Saint-Georges reveals a dense and structured texture, carried by silky, well-integrated tannins. The fruit remains vivid throughout, supported by a fresh, mouthwatering finish that lingers with remarkable length.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with rich, flavorful dishes such as a peppered prime rib of beef, a classic beef bourguignon, or a chestnut-stuffed capon. It also complements poultry and game dishes, including duck, goose, or other feathered game, as well as a Burgundian classic like eggs poached in red wine sauce.
Serving and cellaring
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges is best served at around 16°C (61°F) to fully reveal its aromatic complexity while preserving its freshness. A brief decanting is recommended in its youth to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet.
Other characteristics
This wine is produced from 100 percent pinot noir and is vinified with minimal intervention, reflecting the estate's commitment to a nearly sulfite-free approach that preserves the purity of the fruit.
A Nuits-Saint-Georges from Domaine Prieuré Roch, Expressing the Character of the Côte de Nuits
The Estate
Domaine Prieuré Roch was established in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch, also co-director of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, in the Burgundy region. Built around historic parcels in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, and Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate became known for its early adoption of organic farming, whole-cluster fermentation, and minimal use of additives. Today, the domaine is led by Yannick Champ, who continues the philosophy instilled by its founder, maintaining a style defined by purity, natural winemaking, and respect for the terroir.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Nuits-Saint-Georges come from old vines within the Clos des Corvées, a historic monopole located at the entrance to the Prémeaux hamlet, within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. This parcel, unified in the 1990s, is farmed organically and benefits from a careful selection of the finest, most concentrated grape clusters, contributing to the wine's depth and structure.
The Vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a warm and sunny growing season, with abundant sunshine supporting steady ripening throughout the summer. These conditions allowed the grapes to reach good maturity, resulting in wines with generous fruit expression and balanced structure.
Winemaking and aging
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges is vinified using whole-cluster fermentation, a longstanding practice at Domaine Prieuré Roch, with minimal to no addition of sulfites. This approach favors a natural expression of the fruit and allows the wine to develop its character with limited external intervention, before aging in barrel ahead of bottling.
Grape Varieties
This wine is composed of 100 % pinot noir.
