Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée Village "Clos Goillotte" Monopole 2019 by Domaine Prieuré Roch
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a deep ruby hue with garnet tints, typical of a warm vintage where sun exposure concentrated the pigments in the berries. Despite this depth, the color remains fairly translucent, in keeping with the thin skins of pinot noir and the delicate style sought by the estate.
Nose
The bouquet is centered on red fruit, with raspberry, cherry and wild strawberry at the forefront. Whole-cluster vinification brings subtle floral and spice nuances, while the extended aging in new oak barrels contributes gentle notes of vanilla and sweet spice that blend into the fruit rather than overpowering it.
Palate
The palate is round and suave, with a silky, almost velvety texture that reflects the feminine character traditionally associated with this cuvée. The warmth of the 2019 vintage lends body and a generous alcohol level, while the acidity preserved through careful vine management keeps the wine balanced and lifted. The tannins, shaped by the whole-cluster approach, are fine yet present, carrying the wine toward a long, flavorful finish.
Food and wine pairings
This Vosne-Romanée pairs beautifully with delicate white meats served with cream and mushroom sauces, such as roasted chicken with a wild mushroom reduction. It also complements veal and feathered game, especially when paired with root vegetables or truffle-infused accompaniments, allowing the wine's red fruit and spice notes to shine without being overwhelmed.
Serving and cellaring
The Vosne-Romanée Village "Clos Goillotte" Monopole 2019 benefits from decanting about one to two hours before serving, which helps soften the natural carbon dioxide present in the wine and allows the aromas to open fully. It is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of around 15 to 16°C.
Other characteristics
This wine shows a notably high alcohol level, often above 14%, reflecting the concentration achieved through low yields and the dry, sunny conditions of the 2019 growing season. It is neither filtered nor fined, and retains a natural trace of carbon dioxide from the winemaking process, consistent with the estate's minimal-intervention philosophy.

The Estate
Domaine Prieuré Roch was founded in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch, heir to the Leroy/Roch family and co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Based in Premeaux-Prissey, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, the estate today spans roughly twenty hectares, including three monopole clos. Since 2010, winemaking has been overseen by co-manager Yannick Champ, who continues the estate's commitment to organic and biodynamic farming and minimal-intervention winemaking first established by its founder.
The Vineyard
The Clos Goillotte sits at the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanée, a tiny plot of just 0.55 hectares historically tied to the private vines of the Prince de Conti. The vines here average around 45 years of age and are farmed organically and biodynamically, with manual labor throughout and no synthetic products used. Low yields and careful vine management underscore the estate's commitment to quality on this historic, intra-village site.
The Vintage
The 2019 growing season in Burgundy was marked by intense sunshine, similar to 2018, combined with notably low rainfall that led to drought conditions. This resulted in smaller, more concentrated berries and reduced juice volumes. Sanitary conditions were favorable throughout the season, with healthy grapes reaching high levels of ripeness by harvest.
Winemaking and aging
The Vosne-Romanée Village "Clos Goillotte" Monopole 2019 is vinified using whole clusters, without any added sulfites, relying entirely on indigenous yeasts for spontaneous fermentation. The wine is neither filtered nor fined, and gravity is used throughout the cellar process to move the wine gently from tank to barrel. Aging takes place over approximately 18 months in oak barrels, a large proportion of which are new.
Grape Varieties
100% pinot noir.
