Description
The estate
It was at the beginning of the 20th century that the story of the House of Champagne Taittinger began. Led by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his two children, Clovis and Vitalie, Maison Taittinger has managed to preserve a family spirit while producing champagnes resolutely oriented toward a chardonnay style. Since January 1, 2020, Vitalie Taittinger has been President of the House of Champagne Taittinger.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Maison Taittinger spans 288 hectares of vines and includes 37 different crus. Taittinger is thus the third-largest vineyard in Champagne. The entire vineyard is certified High Environmental Value.
The vintage
The 2011 vintage was marked by a particularly dry spring, followed by a summer whose rainfall and coolness favored rapid vine development. The grapes, harvested as early as August, gave rise to a Rosé champagne combining vitality, character, balance, and purity.
Winemaking and aging
This Comtes de Champagne Rosé by Taittinger benefits from over 12 years of aging deep within the property's Gallo-Roman chalk cellars.
Blend
This 2011 vintage champagne is the result of a blend of Pinot Noir (60%) from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims and Chardonnay (40%) from the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte des Blancs.
This blend also includes 14% Pinot Noir from Bouzy, vinified as red wine with an extended pre-fermentation maceration, giving this cuvée a remarkable tannic structure with aromas of red and black fruits.
Characteristics and tasting notes for Taittinger's Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2011
Tasting notes
Appearance
Brilliant and captivating, the color seduces with its golden hue, adorned with subtle red highlights. The effervescence is remarkably fine.
Nose
Dense and rich, the nose seduces with its iodized notes and precision. As it opens up, the bouquet reveals fruity fragrances (black fruits, cherry) and floral notes (acacia blossom). Delicious hints of gingerbread, mandarin peel, mint, and licorice combine with refreshing notes of sweet spices (turmeric, saffron).
Palate
A subtly fruity and delicate attack precedes a full-bodied palate with silky tannins. The minerality of the chardonnay lends this rosé champagne a subtle balance of aromatic finesse, freshness, and fruity expression.
