The Freshness and Complexity of an Exceptional Blanc de Blancs Champagne by Ruinart
The Estate
Founded in 1729 as the first Champagne House, Ruinart stands as an essential reference. The historic Ruinart Champagne House owes its creation to the visionary and pioneering monk Dom Thierry Ruinart. Located in the heart of Reims, the Ruinart House watches over a true treasure. Unique historical monuments and architectural masterpieces, the Ruinart chalk cellars have been classified as a historic site since 1931 and were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in July 2015. Nearly 40 meters underground, in the darkness and coolness of these cathedral-like cellars, precious bottles patiently await before coming into the light. Elegance, style, and timelessness define the DNA of the Ruinart Champagne House, one of the most beloved brands in France, embodying the excellence of the French art of living around the world.
The Vineyard
This Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2013 from the Ruinart House is composed exclusively of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus from Champagne, sourced 70% from the Côte des Blancs (Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Bergères-lès-Vertus, and Avize) and 30% from the Montagne de Reims (Verzenay, Sillery, Taissy, Villers-Marmery).
The Wine
Crafted from exceptional terroirs and produced only in outstanding vintage years, this Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, of which 2013 marks the 28th vintage, showcases the aromatic richness of Chardonnay, the signature grape variety of the Ruinart House.
The Vintage
2013 was marked by a winter and spring with rainy, cool conditions that slowed the start of the growing cycle. While the mild summer and low rainfall were ideal for preserving the vineyard's health, the season was punctuated by stormy episodes in late June and late July, along with relative instability in September and October. The decision to delay the start of the harvest allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity and ideal balance.
Winemaking
The hand-harvested grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The dosage of this 2013 vintage Champagne is 5.5g/l, and it is aged for a minimum of 9 years on lees.
Blend
This Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2013 is made from 100% Chardonnay.
