Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Pierre Péters Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV
Tasting
Color
The Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV shows a pale gold robe with soft green highlights, animated by a fine, steady mousse.
Nose
The nose of this Champagne from Pierre Péters opens on ripe stone fruit and brioche, with fresh almond, dried white flowers and a touch of saffron. Notes of lemon, pear, pie crust and oyster shell add a briny edge, while hints of apricot, honey and toast bring warmth and depth to the aromatic profile.
Palate
On the palate, this Blanc de Blancs Champagne reveals a creamy, enveloping texture carried by silky bubbles and a bright acidic tension. Salty-sweet pastry nuances and a chalky, saline finish give the wine a long, mineral-driven conclusion.
Food and wine pairings
The Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV pairs beautifully with seafood and shellfish, delicate poultry dishes and well-aged cheeses, making it a true Champagne for the table.
Serving and cellaring
Aged under natural cork, the Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV is already enjoyable upon release, yet it is described as gaining further depth and majesty with additional time in the bottle.
Other characteristics
This Champagne undergoes a partial malolactic fermentation, which softens the acidity while preserving freshness, and is aged under natural cork rather than crown cap, reinforcing its capacity for extended development in bottle.
A Blanc de Blancs Shaped by the Chalk Terroir of the Côte des Blancs
The Estate
Champagne Pierre Péters was established in 1919 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, Champagne, France. Now in its sixth generation, the family house is led today by winemaker Rodolphe Péters, who took over in 2008. The estate farms a little over 19 hectares of Grand Cru chardonnay across Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, and is recognized for its precise, chalk-driven Blanc de Blancs style.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Champagne come from Grand Cru chardonnay plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, planted on the chalky soils characteristic of the Côte des Blancs. The vines, propagated through massal selection and averaging around thirty years of age, grow on gentle south-to-east facing slopes above the chalk plateau, a setting that favors steady ripening and a saline, mineral expression in the fruit.
Blend
This Blanc de Blancs Champagne is built on a perpetual reserve system initiated in 1988, blending more than twenty vintages accumulated over the decades with a base of more recently harvested chardonnay. This solera-style construction allows the Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV to combine freshness with layered maturity.
Winemaking and aging
The Réserve Oubliée Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV is vinified from 100% chardonnay, with fermentation taking place across stainless steel tanks, concrete vessels and large oak foudres, lending texture without imparting pronounced wood character. The wine is aged for an extended period on its lees before being sealed under natural cork, allowing the perpetual reserve to fully integrate with the more recent base vintage.
Grape Varieties
100% chardonnay.
