Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Late Disgorged Brut Millésimé Magnum Case 2002, 2004, 2006 (case assortment) Laurent-Perrier
Tasting
Color
The three magnums of this assortment display the golden, bright color typical of mature Champagne, with hues ranging from pale gold with green tints to a deeper, richer gold as the vintages gain age. The fine, persistent bubbles typical of a long lees aging rise steadily through the glass.
Nose
The extended aging on the lees that defines the Late Disgorged style brings forward notes of brioche, toasted bread, and pastry, layered with dried fruit and honeyed accents. The chardonnay component preserves a thread of citrus and white flowers, while the pinot noir contributes riper, more generous fruit tones that deepen from the 2002 toward the 2006 vintage.
Palate
On the palate, the long lees contact and the magnum format combine to create a creamy, well-integrated mousse, carried by a lively acidity that keeps each vintage fresh despite its maturity. The finish is long, chalky, and savory, with the structure of chardonnay providing tension against the fuller, rounder character brought by pinot noir.
Other characteristics
This champagne is classified as Brut. In keeping with the Laurent-Perrier house style, it is vinified and aged entirely without any oak contact, relying on temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and extended lees aging to build complexity and texture.
A Champagne AOC Multi-Vintage Assortment From Laurent-Perrier, Built Around Three Late-Disgorged Magnums
The Estate
Laurent-Perrier is a Champagne house founded in 1812 in Tours-sur-Marne, a Grand Cru village at the crossroads of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. Since 1939 the house has been owned by the de Nonancourt family, who still hold a majority of the capital today, with Stéphane Dalyac presiding over the Management Board alongside Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt and Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt. Laurent-Perrier is recognized for its fresh, elegant, oak-free style and its pioneering use of stainless steel vinification.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Champagne AOC assortment come from two of the region's most esteemed areas: chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and pinot noir from the Montagne de Reims. These zones are known respectively for producing chardonnay with bright acidity and floral, citrus notes, and pinot noir with structure and ripe fruit character, together forming the backbone of the Laurent-Perrier Brut Millésimé style.
Blend
This case assortment brings together three distinct vintages, 2002, 2004, and 2006, each bottled in Magnum format and each declared by Laurent-Perrier only in years judged exceptional enough to merit a Brut Millésimé. The three magnums were left to age on their lees for 18, 20, and 22 years respectively before being disgorged, offering a vertical exploration of how the house's style evolves across different lengths of lees aging.
Winemaking and aging
The Late Disgorged Brut Millésimé Magnum Case 2002, 2004, 2006 (case assortment) is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, a technique Laurent-Perrier adopted early in order to preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Each vintage was then left to mature on its lees for an extended period, well beyond that of a standard Brut Millésimé, before undergoing late disgorgement directly in Magnum. This extended lees contact, combined with the larger bottle format, allows the wines to develop greater complexity while retaining freshness and aging potential.
Grape Varieties
This champagne is composed of an even blend of 50 % chardonnay and 50 % pinot noir, a ratio applied identically across the three vintages in this Magnum case assortment.
