Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the ER3NM (Non-Vintage) Fleur de Miraval
Tasting
Color
The color is an extremely delicate pale pink, often described as powdery or blush, with subtle salmon highlights. The mousse is remarkably fine, forming a steady stream of tiny bubbles that create a creamy, persistent collar in the glass.
Nose
The nose opens on white flowers and fresh red berries such as wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by zesty citrus notes of blood orange and grapefruit. Aeration reveals a toastier, pastry-like dimension, with hints of fresh bread, roasted almond and a touch of smoke, layered over white stone fruit and dried flowers.
Palate
The attack is crisp and vibrant, driven by citrus and a chalky minerality typical of the Côte des Blancs. The mid-palate turns fleshy and creamy, carried by white and red fruit along with light toasted and spiced notes, before a long, saline finish built on fine chalkiness. Given time in the glass, the wine unfolds further, showing riper fruit, gentle spice and anise-like nuances.
Food and wine pairings
This rosé Champagne pairs beautifully with delicate seafood and shellfish, as well as with white meats served in creamy, mushroom-based sauces. It also shines alongside refined pastry and fruit-based desserts, echoing its own pastry and red berry notes.
Serving and cellaring
The ER3NM (Non-Vintage) should be served chilled, and benefits from a little time in the glass to fully reveal its aromatic layers. This cuvée was disgorged in May 2022 after three years of aging on lees, following its minimum legal requirement for the appellation.
Other characteristics
Fleur de Miraval ER3 is a rosé Champagne with an alcohol content of approximately 12.5% and a very low dosage of 4 to 4.5 g/L, placing it at the edge between brut and extra-brut in style. This low level of sugar allows the chalky minerality and fruit purity of the wine to express themselves with precision.
A Rosé Champagne from the Côte des Blancs Built Around Chardonnay and Chalk
The Estate
Fleur de Miraval is a Champagne house launched in 2020, born from the collaboration of three families: Brad Pitt and the Perrin family, through their Provençal project Miraval, and the Péters family, longtime récoltants-manipulants in Mesnil-sur-Oger since 1919. The house is dedicated exclusively to rosé Champagne, with winemaking led by Rodolphe Péters at the Pierre Péters estate. Fleur de Miraval sources grapes from a small selection of grand cru plots in the Côte des Blancs and premier cru Vertus, producing limited volumes under its numbered "ER" editions.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Champagne come from grand cru chardonnay plots located in Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, all within the Côte des Blancs, where chalky subsoils favor slow ripening and pronounced minerality. The pinot noir comes from premier cru plots in Vertus, just south of Mesnil-sur-Oger, an area where chalk gradually gives way to slightly richer soils, yielding fresh, fruity pinot noir grapes.
Blend
This non-vintage cuvée is built on the 2018 harvest as its base vintage, enriched with chardonnay reserve wines from the house's perpetual reserve dating back to 2007, along with older reserve chardonnays from the 2000 and 2009 vintages. These older components bring creamy texture and riper fruit character, complementing the freshness of the 2018 base wines.
Winemaking and aging
For the ER3NM (Non-Vintage), the pinot noir from Vertus is vinified as a rosé via saignée from the same plot each year, extracting delicate color and precise fruit aromas. The chardonnay, vinified as a still white wine, is partly drawn from a perpetual reserve aged on fine lees in a mix of stainless steel, concrete and oak vats. Once blended and bottled, the wine undergoes a minimum of three years of aging on lees in the cellars of Mesnil-sur-Oger before disgorgement.
Grape Varieties
This Champagne is composed of 75% chardonnay and 25% pinot noir.
