Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Delamotte's Blanc de Blancs 2018
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A beautiful pale gold hue, the color is enhanced by a fine effervescence.
Nose
Opening with intense fruity aromas (Williams pear, citrus zest), the nose reveals notes of hawthorn, fresh hazelnut and sweet spices as it airs.
Palate
A crisp, subtly lemony attack precedes a vibrant palate. Ripe fruit, vine peach and roasted hazelnuts blend harmoniously into a rich, lingering finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 2018 pairs beautifully with Cantonese steamed dumplings filled with seafood, sea bream ceviche with leche de tigre, or an "oreiller de la belle aurore" (a blend of meats and game cooked with black truffle, encased in a crisp puff pastry).
Serving
For optimal enjoyment, serve at 8°C in an elegant tulip-shaped wine glass.
Aging Potential
This exceptional champagne can be cellared for around 15 years to fully reveal its aromatic range.
The Purity and Precision of a Vintage Blanc de Blancs Champagne
The Estate
Founded in 1760, the House of Champagne Delamotte is one of the five oldest houses in Champagne. Located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, in Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte shares the same ambition for excellence as its legendary neighbor, Salon. Under the direction of Didier Depond, the two sister houses share the same sales team, a single vineyard division, and one cellar master overseeing their shared destiny. Delamotte is thus one of the rare négociants who work, with passion and respect for the environment, to express this unique Champagne terroir.
The Vineyard
This 2018 vintage of Delamotte Blanc de Blancs is crafted from a rigorous selection of Grands Crus from the Côte des Blancs, namely Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Chouilly and Oiry. Situated on hillside slopes, these iconic Champagne terroirs owe their distinctiveness to their chalky soils, lending this cuvée delicacy, vivacity and persistence.
The Vintage
Particularly wet and cold, the winter was marked by frost episodes in late February and early March. Mild spring weather then encouraged rapid vine growth, followed by a historically hot and dry summer. Despite these extreme conditions, the impact on the vines was limited thanks to the substantial water reserves built up in the soil during winter. The vineyard's health was excellent overall, and the grapes were of outstanding quality, giving rise to a 2018 vintage champagne of rare freshness and elegance.
Winemaking and Aging
Disgorged during the 4th year of aging. This Blanc de Blancs champagne has a dosage of 5g/liter.
Blend
Chardonnay (100%).
