Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips of the Millésimé Brut Collection Crayeres 1985
Tasting
Color
With a beautiful coppery-pink hue and brick-colored highlights, the color stands out for its fine, delicate bubbles forming an elegant bead, a sign of subtle and persistent effervescence.
Nose
The nose reveals notes of candied citrus, dominated by blood orange, then evolves towards deeper spice aromas such as clove and a hint of walnut.
Palate
The attack is fresh and lively, contrasting with considerable power on the palate. The finish, slightly tannic, brings depth and character to the wine.
A Racy and Elegant Vintage Rosé Champagne
The Estate
An essential reference, the Maison de Champagne Charles Heidsieck safeguards a prestigious heritage with cellars dating back two millennia. A pioneer, Charles Heidsieck distinguished itself in the late 1980s by showcasing the exceptional aromatic development potential of its multi-vintage Brut champagne. In 1987, Charles Heidsieck thus became the first Champagne house to indicate the year of “mise en cave” to track the wine’s evolution over time.
The Vineyard
The Maison Charles Heidsieck owns a vineyard of around 60 hectares in the Marne and Aube. This vineyard holds a sustainable viticulture accreditation as well as Haute Valeur Environnementale certification. In addition to its estate vineyards and following the Champagne model, Charles Heidsieck fulfills its requirements through long-term supply contracts with rigorously selected growers and cooperatives in Champagne.
The Wine
From the Œnothèque of the Maison Charles Heidsieck, this Millésimé Brut Collection Crayères 1988 is a rare and delicate rosé champagne, placed in cellars in 1986 and disgorged in 2021. Its dosage is 9g/L.
The Vintage
This year was exceptional for the harvest, despite severe winter frosts that damaged part of the Champagne vineyards. Sunny weather from early July encouraged a fine richness in the grapes, especially the Chardonnays, which are distinguished by their maturity, finesse, and elegance. The patience needed for the wines’ full development is already perceptible.
Blend
Pinot noir (70%) and Chardonnay (30%).
