The Montrachet appellation covers a total area of 8 hectares. Montrachet is located in between the Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet communes. Montrachet is one of the 5 "Grand Cru" appellations of the Cote de Beaune, sharing this title with Batard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet and Criots-Batards-Montrachet. The plots are planted mid-slope, on thin soil mainly composed of hard limestone and red marl. The renowned white wines of Montrachet combine an elegant structure that is perfectly-balanced with distinct notes of pastries (croissants), butter, and honey.
