Description
A Beaune 1er Cru from Louis Jadot, Between Restraint and Ripeness
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a deep ruby robe, a shade that reflects the ripeness brought by the warm, sunny 2022 growing season.
Nose
The nose opens on a fruity and spicy register, with red and black fruit notes layered with a subtle touch of oak that remains discreet rather than dominant.
Palate
The palate is elegant and well balanced, carried by fine, silky tannins and a precise fruit expression that favors finesse over power, giving the wine a smooth, full-bodied texture typical of the house's restrained style.
Serving and cellaring
The Beaune 1er Cru 2022 from Louis Jadot benefits from being decanted before serving, at a temperature suited to red Burgundy, in order to fully reveal its aromatic layers. Its silky tannins and precise fruit give it the structure of a wine built for aging, allowing it to be enjoyed both in its youth and after further time in the cellar.
The Estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune, Louis Jadot has grown into one of Burgundy's most respected négociant houses, today farming more than 200 hectares across over 130 appellations, from Chablis to the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. The estate has belonged to the American Kopf family since 1985, while daily leadership rests with president Thomas Seiter and managing director Thibault Gagey. Known for its precise, restrained style and its advanced environmental commitment, including HVE3 certification and organic certification of its estate vineyards since 2024, Louis Jadot remains deeply rooted in its home base of Beaune.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from premier cru climats within the Beaune appellation, where clay-limestone soils, marls, and varied exposures give each parcel its own character. Beaune's patchwork of climats, including historic sites farmed by the house, benefits from manual harvesting, limited yields, and a vineyard management approach that excludes chemical herbicides, part of the estate's broader HVE3-certified and organic-leaning viticulture.
The Vintage
The 2022 growing season in Burgundy was warm and sunny, a year described by the producer as demanding for vine growers yet ultimately well balanced. These conditions led to grapes with strong ripeness while retaining a good level of acidity, resulting in wines noted for their overall equilibrium.
Winemaking and aging
For the Beaune 1er Cru 2022, fermentation takes place in open vats, favoring gentle extraction of color and structure. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for around eighteen months, with a measured use of new wood that keeps the oak in the background, allowing the fruit and the terroir to remain at the forefront.
Grape Varieties
100% pinot noir.
