Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru 2022 Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Color
The color reveals a magnificent ruby red hue, at once deep, intense and radiant.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet exudes scents of wild cherry, morello cherry and strawberry, harmoniously blended with floral notes of violet. Subtle touches of sweet spices, musk, coffee and chocolate, along with nuances of truffle and leather, further enrich this olfactory palette.
Palate
The attack offers a remarkably silky sensation, revealing refined and elegant tannins. The mid-palate, delicate yet endowed with beautiful breadth, rests on a mineral framework that lends tension. The finish lingers at great length, leaving behind a multitude of gustatory sensations.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with traditional dishes such as boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin or roast leg of lamb. It also enhances refined poultry dishes, duck fillet with cherries, as well as recipes with woodland flavors such as mushroom risotto or truffle scrambled eggs. When it comes to cheese, favor soft, creamy varieties such as Brillat-Savarin, Cîteaux or Chaource.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C, after allowing it to breathe for thirty minutes to an hour. This wine, built for aging, will reach its peak after about ten years and can be kept until around 2047.
The elegance and purity of a great Vosne-Romanée wine
The estate
Founded in 1880, the Maison Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Currently at the helm of the estate, Frédéric Drouhin, alongside his brother and sisters, carries on the family legacy. The domaine spans around 250 acres across the region's finest terroirs. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture, this producer stands out for its integrated model combining the roles of grower and merchant, ensuring wines of remarkable purity and elegance.
The vineyard
Located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Vosne-Romanée terroir enjoys worldwide renown. The vines benefit from an ideal east-facing exposure and a privileged mid-slope location, promoting optimal sunlight exposure and excellent drainage. The soils consist of a complex mosaic of limestone, mixed with clay, sand and scree. This cuvée is crafted from a careful selection of prestigious plots, notably Les Petits Monts, Les Malconsorts and Les Chaumes.
The vintage
The year 2022 stood out for its particularly hot, dry and sunny conditions. Following beneficial rainfall in June, the growing cycle accelerated. Early flowering led to slight coulure, reducing yields but encouraging an exceptional natural concentration in the berries. The dry and scorching month of August helped maintain perfect vine health right up until harvest, which began early, yielding grapes with ideal phenolic ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru 2022 are hand-harvested into small perforated crates, then rigorously sorted. Vinification includes a proportion of whole clusters ranging from 20 to 50%. Fermentation, triggered by indigenous yeasts, takes place over two to three weeks in small open vats, with gentle punching down and pumping over. After vertical pressing, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, a quarter of which are new, for fourteen to eighteen months.
