Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for the 2024 Meursault Village "Limozin" from Domaine François Mikulski
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a bright, luminous robe, typical of a young white Burgundy.
Nose
The nose is discreet yet remarkably refined, carried by a cool, fresh impression reminiscent of early spring air.
Palate
The palate reveals ample volume and a lively, elastic texture, with an opulent fruit character wrapped in rich, fleshy matter. Notes of pear infused with mandarin mingle with touches of Sichuan pepper and saffron, while a peppery marmalade reminiscent of ras el hanout spice gives way to apricot preserve brushed with orange and a hint of hot curry. Blood orange lifted by a touch of Espelette pepper rounds out this generous profile. The finish is particularly striking, releasing considerable energy through the palate alongside notes of pepper and gunpowder, while vibrant citrus meets the intense clay character drawn from the soil, resulting in a long, persistent finish.
Serving and cellaring
Like other wines from this appellation, the 2024 Meursault Village "Limozin" benefits from some time in the cellar. The estate suggests an aging potential of about 5 to 10 years, meaning it may be enjoyed until approximately 2034.
A Meursault Village Shaped by the Clay-Rich Soils of the Limozin Climat
The Estate
Domaine François Mikulski is a family-run estate located in Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. Legally established in 1991 by François and Marie-Pierre Mikulski, the estate released its first vintage in 1992 and has since grown to roughly 9.5 hectares, including several Meursault premier cru climats. While François remains closely involved, the estate's future is increasingly guided by his daughter Anna and her husband, Thomas Boccon. The domaine is recognized for an approach built on authenticity, elegance, and purity, combining uncertified organic farming with precise, minimal-intervention winemaking.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from two parcels within the Limozin climat, located south of the village of Meursault, close to the estate's premier cru holdings. The vines, roughly 65 years old and planted entirely to chardonnay, are farmed using uncertified organic methods. The subsoil here is composed of fine river alluvium, lower in limestone than other Meursault parcels but heavier and particularly well-draining, a characteristic that lends the wine its distinctive roundness and silky texture while still preserving a mineral edge.
Winemaking and aging
As with the estate's other white wines, the 2024 Meursault Village "Limozin" is pressed gently using a pneumatic press, followed by a thorough settling of the must. Fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts and unfolds slowly over three to four months, after which the wine is aged for twelve months in barrel on its lees, with a moderate proportion of new oak. A fining step is carried out to refine the wine's texture and aromatic precision before bottling in February.
Grape Varieties
100 % chardonnay.
