Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 from Domaine François Mikulski
Tasting
Color
The 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté displays a bright, lime-green hued robe, a sign of youth and lively acidity.
Nose
The nose opens on ripe citrus and green apple, with lime, kiwi and star fruit, layered with light jammy notes and a touch of black pepper and Espelette pepper spice.
Palate
On the palate, this Bourgogne Aligoté shows a supple, almost silky texture that carries ripe fruit alongside lively acidity and a pronounced mineral, saline edge. The wine stays well balanced between alcohol, acidity and fruit, finishing on a long, savory note where the fruit lingers alongside a persistent spicy nuance.
Food and wine pairings
Domaine François Mikulski suggests serving this Bourgogne Aligoté chilled as an aperitif, where its freshness and tension awaken the palate. This wine also pairs naturally with seafood, such as oysters, shrimp and shellfish, whose briny character echoes the wine's saline finish.
Serving and cellaring
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 is best served cool, around 50-54°F (10-12°C), to fully reveal its citrus and green apple aromatics while preserving its lively acidity. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth to appreciate its vibrant fruit, though it may also be kept a little longer in the cellar.
Other characteristics
With an alcohol content of approximately 12.5%, this Bourgogne Aligoté is a dry white wine, showing a bright, mineral-driven profile typical of old-vine aligoté.
A Bourgogne Aligoté Shaped by Old Vines and Meursault Precision
The Estate
Domaine François Mikulski was created in 1992 in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, when François and his wife Marie-Pierre produced their first vintage. The estate today spans about nine to ten hectares, mostly planted with chardonnay and pinot noir alongside two small aligoté parcels, all cultivated under uncertified organic practices built on authenticity, elegance and purity. François Mikulski continues to lead the estate, with his son-in-law Thomas Boccon progressively taking on a greater role as the next generation prepares to take over. The domaine has earned a strong reputation among collectors worldwide for its precise, mineral-driven Meursaults.
The Vineyard
This Bourgogne Aligoté comes from two old aligoté parcels covering 1.5 hectares, planted in 1929 and 1948 by Joseph Boillot, François Mikulski's grandfather, and farmed by the domaine under a lease since 1992. Located on the lower part of the slope, the vines grow on fine river alluvial subsoils, a configuration that lends the wine a fluid, saline minerality. The parcels are cultivated following uncertified organic methods, with careful attention paid to yields and vine health.
Winemaking and aging
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 is vinified following the domaine's general approach for its white wines, relying on gentle pneumatic pressing, a thorough settling of the must, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Unlike the estate's barrel-aged Meursaults, this cuvée is aged in stainless steel tank on its lees, which preserves the directness of the fruit while adding a touch of texture. The wine is bottled early, in July, specifically to retain maximum freshness and fruit expression.
Grape Varieties
This wine is produced from 100% aligoté, sourced from old vines planted in 1929 and 1948.
