Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2023 from Domaine François Mikulski

Tasting

Color
Beautifully clear, the pale to golden yellow color is illuminated by subtle green-yellow reflections.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of fresh citrus, reminiscent of candied lemon, and yellow fruits such as pear. With aeration, delicate toasted touches of hazelnut, roasted almond, and brioche emerge, underpinned by a mineral backbone evoking chalk, flint, and a touch of salinity.

Palate
The palate offers a full and voluptuous texture, perfectly balanced by lovely freshness. The mid-palate unfolds fruity aromas and subtle spicy notes. The beautifully long finish extends into flavors of citrus and almond, carried by a mineral and saline tension.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs ideally with shellfish such as lobster or langoustine, as well as with fish served with rich, creamy sauces. It also enhances creamy poultry dishes, foie gras, blue cheeses, or dishes centered on vegetables and fresh herbs.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this great Burgundy wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 13°C. It has significant aging potential and will continue to evolve favorably in the cellar, ideally enjoyed until around 2043.

The mineral elegance and generosity of a Meursault Premier Cru

The estate

Founded in 1991 by François and Marie-Pierre Mikulski, Domaine François Mikulski stands out among the finest names in Burgundy. Located in France, this approximately ten-hectare estate is now run by François Mikulski and his son-in-law Thomas Boccon. The domaine is distinguished by a philosophy centered on purity, tension, and authentic expression of the terroir, applying principles derived from organic farming. Internationally recognized for its beautifully precise white wines, the domaine also cultivates a unique heritage of very old vines, thereby preserving a historic winegrowing legacy.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a small 0.18-hectare plot located on the prestigious terroir of Meursault. Facing south and southeast, the vines benefit from optimal sun exposure on the mid-slope. The shallow, very stony soil consists of a clay-limestone mixture resting on hard, marly Jurassic limestone. This cuvée comes from century-old vines planted in 1913, cultivated using environmentally friendly methods to encourage the plant's biological balance.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by particularly hot and dry weather conditions. After a mild spring that favored good budburst and ideal vegetative development, the summer season was marked by intense heat and a lack of rainfall. Despite this water stress, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, offering an optimal balance between sugar and acidity at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The hand-harvested grapes undergo rigorous sorting. The berries are fully destemmed before gentle pneumatic pressing. After a twenty-four-hour settling period, fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts in wooden barrels. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out. Aging lasts sixteen to eighteen months on the lees, with regular manual lees stirring. The use of new barrels is deliberately limited to between 15 and 20%. The wine is racked by gravity and lightly filtered before bottling in February.
