Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Echezeaux Grand Cru 2021 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Color

This Echezeaux Grand Cru displays a deep, vivid red wine hue, with garnet highlights that hint at the richness of fruit concentrated in this pinot noir.

Nose

The nose opens on ripe red and black fruit, with notes of cherry, raspberry and blackberry, layered with fine spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Floral touches reminiscent of rose and violet complete the bouquet, while subtle woodsy and earthy nuances add depth.

Palate

The palate reveals a generous, well-structured attack, supported by firm yet polished tannins that coat the mouth without any hardness. A lively acidity keeps the wine fresh and well balanced, carrying the fruit and spice flavors through to a remarkably long finish.

Food and wine pairings

This Echezeaux Grand Cru pairs beautifully with roasted leg of lamb, beef fillet wrapped in a brioche crust, or other refined red meat dishes. It also stands up well to Époisses cheese, whose powerful character echoes the wine's depth and complexity.

Serving and cellaring

Echezeaux Grand Cru Domaine 2021 is best served slightly below room temperature, ideally after decanting to allow its aromas to fully open. Thanks to its structure and concentration, this wine is well suited to cellaring, allowing it to develop further complexity over time.

The Estate

Domaine A.F. Gros is an emblematic estate based in Pommard, in the heart of Burgundy, carrying on the renowned winemaking tradition of the Gros family. The estate oversees an exceptional heritage spread across the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Today, Domaine A.F. Gros is run by Caroline and Mathias Parent, children of founder Anne-Françoise Gros, who continue to showcase some of the region's greatest terroirs with dedication and precision.

The Vineyard

The Echezeaux Grand Cru vineyard is located in the commune of Flagey-Echézeaux, on complex, well-drained marl-limestone soils. This renowned Côte de Nuits vineyard benefits from a privileged exposure that allows the pinot noir to reach balanced ripeness, drawing from old vines on this exceptional parcel a noble structure and great aromatic depth.
