Chateau La Tour Figeac 2016

With an almost explosive fruitiness—full-bodied, dense, even opulent—yet never heavy; excellently crafted and guaranteed to delight.

This has a mix of fresh loganberry, warmed boysenberry reduction and melted red licorice notes all together, backed by enticing mulling spice, apple wood and sanguine flavors on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2032. 3,550 cases made.

Potent blackcurrant and black cherry, dark cocoa and cedar nose. Supple and lifted with blueberry and wild plum, redcurrant, menthol and graphite. Nicely controlled and weighted in the mouth with lots of liquorice and freshness on the finish.

Deep and fragrant with some savory character, this is a beautiful St.-Emilion that has a wonderful, silky texture on the fullish palate, as it sails through into the very long finish, thanks to the fine tannins and impressive ripeness. Drink or hold.

The 2016 La Tour Figeac offers good fruit intensity and depth. Readers should plan on giving it a few years in bottle, as the tannins are a bit coarse today. Red cherry, plum, espresso and floral notes add complexity throughout. Even so, the tannins retain a toughness that is not likely to ever fully disappear.

Smoky black cherry, licorice, espresso and earthy notes work perfectly with the fresh, ripe, sweet plums and cherries. Medium-bodied and driven by finesse, this is quite the charmer.

Deep dark ruby, firm core, purple reflections, faint brightening on the rim. Ripe sweet cherry fruit, plum notes, delicate tobacco and nougat in the background. Juicy with good complexity, more cherry on the palate, fine tannins, elegant and with good length.

pure, floral and lifted nose with violet, wild berries, dry spices, ginger and clove; medium-bodied palate with fine proportions, polished and fresh, offering elegant fruit, crushed raspberry, plum, and a suave finish with good length.

The 2016 Château La Tour Figeac was outstanding both times I was able to taste it. Offering good ripeness in its black cherries, raspberries, forest floor, and smoked earth aromas and flavors, it’s medium to full-bodied, has terrific balance, and a layered, lengthy, elegant style that’s going to drink nicely for 15 years or more.

Deep purple with violet rim. A delicate perfume of raspberry and red cherries, showing great finesse. On the elegant palate, finely integrated tannins, rosewood and redcurrant on the finish. A wonderful St.-Émilion finesse!

Kunz barrel sample 17: Powerful, fresh, sweet bouquet, blackberries, wild strawberries, nougat, chocolate. Balanced, creamy, fragrant palate with sweet fruit, fine tannins, tightly interwoven structure, intense, refined aromatics, long, dense finish. (18/20) Tasting note by René Gabriel, shortly before bottling: Very dark garnet with purple highlights, dense core. The bouquet of this very young wine is a dream! Blackberries, cassis, black plums, blueberries, with coffee and fine woods emerging underneath. It shows more depth than ever. On the palate, full, rich and fleshy. Displays great concentration. The tannins are magnificent and already slightly rounded, the finish almost over-aromatic. This could become the best Tour-Figeac in its history. With a guaranteed potential of a good 25 years! (19/20).

Elegant, fresh, powerful bouquet of strawberries, cherries, cedar, light tobacco, fine nougat. A tightly woven, refined palate with fresh fruit, plenty of fine tannins, an elegant, dense structure, diverse aromatics, and a long, delicately bitter finish. 18/20 2024 - 2042

La Tour Figeac 2016 is deep garnet in color. It sings of Morello cherries, black raspberries, and mossy tree bark, plus suggestions of licorice and black tea, with a waft of cardamom. The full-bodied palate is rich and soft, delivering bags of expressive black fruits and a long-lasting finish.

Perfectly elongated tannin, with a flavorful substance of striking clarity, rich in flesh yet maintaining a very distinguished balance.

The supported freshness is an additional asset in asserting the style of La Tour Figeac. Refinement characterizes the entire tasting, and the wine ends on creamy tannins. Cellaring potential of fifteen years ahead.

Separated from Château Figeac since 1879, La Tour Figeac is located on the edge of the AOC Pomerol, between Cheval Blanc and Figeac. The 2016 harvest took place from October 3 to 18. Garnet-red colour with violet highlights. The bouquet is of good intensity and pleasantly fruity. On the palate, it shows a slightly creamy, well-balanced body. The tannins are well integrated, but the finish still needs to gain in elegance, as it is somewhat drying. A little cellaring will be necessary. Fruity finish.

The nose offers a little concentration as well as delicate power. We find notes of blackcurrant, small wild berries and, more lightly, flowers (violet, lily), along with subtle touches of blackcurrant bud, blond tobacco, licorice and discreet hints of spice. The wine benefits from decanting. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers fine juiciness, a delicate mineral backbone (refined minerality), finesse, smoothness, and a very subtle straightness. On the palate, this wine reveals notes of fresh blackberry, fresh raspberry and, more lightly, crunchy/juicy small fruits, together with slight toasted nuances, tonka bean, and a very discreet floral hint. The tannins are fine and well handled.

The best ever made. Dark, intense, and beautiful color. An intense, refined nose, fruity, ripe, and creamy. A delicious, highly aromatic palate with medium body but plenty of flavor. Long, sapid, and delicious. Enjoy it young.

93–95. Barrel Sample. Big and bold, this wine, produced from a biodynamic estate, is packed with dark tannins and intense fruit. It is solid and fruity, clearly built for the long haul.
