Description

A Dense and Elegant Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe

Situated at the border with Pomerol in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe appellation, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Chateau La Tour Figeac was originally part of the famous Chateau Figeac, Premier Grand Cru Classe. The separation took place in 1879 and Chateau La Tour Figeac now produces its own wines from a terroir of almost 15 hectares, composed of gritty sandy soils upon deep clay.

The team at Chateau La Tour Figeac is keenly aware of the importance to respect the environment and biodiversity. Thus, the vineyard has for almost 20 years been cultivated with biological and biodynamic techniques.

The Chateau La Tour Figeac 2018 is one of the great vintages of the property. The fruit reached a very nice level of ripeness and was vinified in small batches after destemming. Gentle extractions were carried out by punch-overs in all the vats. This technique avoids over-extraction and allows the fruit to retain very elegant tannins. The wines then spent around 15 months in casks and wooden vats.

Blending 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the Chateau La Tour Figeac 2018 is a wine that is both elegant and concentrated. Ripe tannins give rise to a silky and very generous texture. Its aromatic palette develops red and black fruits, such as raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, but also fine aromas of violet, sweet spices and vanilla. It is a very balanced wine that will be ready to drink soon, but will also demonstrate a fantastic potential to age.
