Description

A Saint-Émilion wine marked by refinement and aromatic richness

The Estate

Château La Tour Figeac, a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, was founded in 1879 when it was separated from Château Figeac, to which it was previously attached. Since 1994, the Otto Maximilian Rettenmaier family has been at the helm of the estate.

The Vineyard

The Château La Tour Figeac vineyard benefits from an exceptional location in Saint-Émilion, on the border of the Pomerol appellation. The 14.6 hectares of vines are situated between Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac. The vines, averaging 37 years of age, are rooted in a magnificent gravel-sandy terroir atop deep clay. Since 1997, the Château La Tour Figeac vineyard has been managed ecologically, with the introduction of organic and biodynamic practices. Herbal teas and natural preparations are used to care for the vines while respecting the entire ecosystem. The estate has gone even further in environmental protection and vineyard management, as cereals are now planted between the vine rows to strengthen the soil and limit erosion.

Winemaking and Ageing

Strict selection followed by destemming. Vinification in small fermentation vats. Gentle extraction via punching down. Maceration for one month. Racking into barrels (50% new, 50% one-year-old barrels) for malolactic fermentation prior to ageing for 15 months.

Blend

The Château La Tour Figeac 2015 comprises a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
