Description

A Saint-Émilion wine imbued with refinement and aromatic richness

The estate

Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion, Château La Tour Figeac was founded in 1879 when it separated from Château Figeac to which it had been attached. Since 1994, the Otto Maximilian Rettenmaier family has been at the head of the estate.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château La Tour Figeac benefits from an exceptional location in Saint-Émilion, on the border of the Pomerol appellation. The 14.6 hectares of vines are situated between Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac. The vines, 37 years old on average, are planted on a superb gravelly-sandy terroir resting on deep clay soils. Since 1997, the vineyard of Château La Tour Figeac has been managed ecologically with the implementation of organic and biodynamic practices. Herbal teas and natural preparations are used to care for the vines while considering the entire ecosystem. The estate has gone even further in respecting the environment and the vineyard, as cereals are now planted between the rows of vines to strengthen the soils and limit erosion.

Winemaking and aging

Strict sorting followed by destemming. Fermentation in small vats. Gentle extraction with punchdowns. One-month maceration. Transfer to barrels (50% new, 50% one-wine barrels) for malolactic fermentation, followed by 15 months of aging.

Blend

The 2015 Château La Tour Figeac is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
